I have a confession to make. One that if my professional colleague sitting opposite me right now knew, would leave him in a quivering mess. As he sits there looking at me, discussing todays ever so important to do list, I am writing on my laptop about my confession to the fact that I love porn.

Love it. Have done since the days when as a teenager I would sneak into my big brothers room and raid his triple x video collection skillfully hidden behind his wardrobe. He had no idea, and, I think, would have been appaled if he had known I was secretly watching it as well , but that was part of the titilation. The taboo I knew I was breaking. Nobody knew what I knew.

So in those days of curling up in my bedroom and watching the magic of Nina Hartley and Candida Royalle unfold before me, I developed a taste for the beauty and power of sex. I learnt how to masturbate most effectively, and stored a whole manifesto of sexual tips and techniques which I would unleash several years later when my sex life began as a young adult.

Porn to me at that stage was not just about dirty entertainment and awakening; it was an instructional hotbed which helped lay a foundation for the woman I am today.

I am lucky, I suppose, that my brother had good taste in porn. Because, vicariously, I developed good taste in porn. Even if it had been the former, which my brother being a good man would never tolerate anyway, I had enough sense even then to know good from bad, degrading from enlightening, and my own self value. I always worry about what goes on in the mind of a man who enjoys watching women being treated as little more than an object for his sexual gratification. But that is beside the point...

I think the misconception that most women hate porn, or find it degrading and offensive, still exists. Actually, I know it still exists. But if statistics are any measure, women are the new rising force in the adult market, and more power to us because of it. The tipping point has been reached.

Why? Because the change in demand is evolving the industry. Some of the porn being produced today is fantastic all-round adult entertainment, professionally made and high quality.

Porn is now not just sex for the sake of it, which sex only occassionally is anyway. It is sex with fashion, sex with music, sex with story, sex with style, sex with sophistication, sex with fetish, sex with variety and daring and sex with, most of all, pleasure!

Women becoming more involved as an audience and in the actual creation of the material is creating a better product. As a result, in my opinion anyway, sexuality is evolving in society. It still has a long way to go, but at least the ball is rolling.
